What is better X-pipe or H-pipe?

I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 281 4.6l 2 valve V8 and I'm looking to have an exhaust put on. I'm not sure what I should go with as for the pipes connecting again because I want a true dual system. Which is better to do for my vehicle and why? Like benefits and what not
